ABOUT THE ROLE

As Head of Product – Payments (m/f/d), you’ll lead one of the most technically complex and strategically vital product groups at Pliant. This group is responsible for:

  • Card features and transaction processing
  • Bank payment flows and internal ledgering
  • Integrations with issuing banks, card networks, FX providers, and financial infrastructure providers

You will lead and grow a team of Product Managers across these areas, ensuring that Pliant’s payments infrastructure is reliable, extensible, auditable, and compliant. You’ll play a key role in enabling fast, scalable, and high-volume transaction handling across multiple geographies.

You will report directly to the CPO and work closely with Engineering, Infrastructure, Compliance, Payment Operations, Risk, and external partners.

This is a hands-on leadership role, requiring a blend of strategic direction, domain expertise, and day-to-day product involvement.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Own the product strategy and roadmap for Pliant’s payments infrastructure, covering card issuing, bank payments, fund flows, and reconciliation across 25+ international markets
  • Lead and grow a team of PMs, ensuring alignment across product areas, strong execution, and career development
  • Ensure robust integrations with issuing banks, card networks (e.g. Visa), FX providers, and financial infrastructure including SEPA, SWIFT, BACS, ACH, and other local payment rails
  • Collaborate closely with engineering to maintain a scalable, resilient platform with clean architecture and reliable APIs
  • Drive key initiatives in transaction processing, ledger accuracy, payment reliability, and real-time balances
  • Work closely with Payment Operations to support reconciliation, liquidity management, and exception handling workflows
  • Act as product sponsor for compliance-sensitive and mission-critical payment operations initiatives
  • Define and track core KPIs, including transaction success rates, payment latency, fund flow accuracy, and platform scalability
  • Represent Pliant externally in partner, vendor, and enterprise customer conversations, including technical integrations and roadmap alignment

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • 8+ years of product management experience, including 3+ years leading product teams or groups
  • Deep expertise in card payments, bank transfers, or financial infrastructure (e.g. BaaS, embedded finance)
  • Solid technical foundation, able to discuss APIs, architecture, and platform design with engineering peers
  • Experience working with ledgering systems, fund flows, and reconciliation logic
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally in a regulated, operations-heavy fintech environment
  • Hands-on leadership approach: pragmatic, supportive, low-ego, and highly collaborative
  • Fluent in English; based in Berlin or London is preferred, remote possible within the EU
