About the Role

We’re seeking a Head of Solution Engineering (m/f/d) remote to build and lead our Solution Engineering function. This is a new role created to support our growth by ensuring customers and partners succeed in adopting and scaling Pliant’s platform.

As the first leader in this area, you’ll define the function, hire and mentor a high-performing team, and act as the technical bridge between Sales, Product, and Engineering. You’ll ensure our customers’ business needs translate into robust technical solutions, while also feeding insights back into product strategy. You balance strategic vision with a hands-on, pragmatic approach, especially in the initial stages.

You’ll collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and go-to-market teams to design scalable solutions, run proof-of-concepts, and create the technical foundations for long-term customer success.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and Lead the Function: Establish and scale the Solution Engineering team, setting structure, standards, and processes, while fostering a culture of hands-on problem-solving and immediate value delivery in this foundational stage.
  • Partner with Sales, Partnerships and Customer Success: Drive pre-sales technical engagements (demos, RFPs, solution design) and ensure smooth onboarding and integration, actively participating in advanced customer support and technical troubleshooting to resolve complex issues.
  • Translate Customer Needs: Act as the technical voice of the customer, influencing product roadmaps with insights from the field, and facilitating the creation of robust technical documentation for our CaaS/Pro APIs to ensure clarity and adoption.
  • Define Best Practices: Create and maintain reference architectures, playbooks, and enablement materials for consistent, high-quality delivery, including guiding the team in technical writing and documentation best practices.
  • Mentor and Grow Talent: Develop solution engineers into trusted advisors, balancing deep technical expertise with customer-facing skills, and guiding them in taking on project management responsibilities for key technical initiatives.
  • Represent Pliant Externally: Lead technical workshops, industry events, and customer forums as a trusted advocate of our platform.
  • Promote Continuous Improvement: Track and measure team impact, refine processes, and ensure Solution Engineering scales effectively with company growth, evolving the function from a broad, pragmatic start to a more structured and specialized outcome.

What You’ll Bring

  • 7+ years in solution engineering, sales engineering, or solution architecture, with at least 2+ years in a leadership role.
  • A hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves mindset, comfortable with a broad remit that includes elements of developer relations, solution architecture, technical support, pre-sales, technical writing, and project management, particularly in the early stages of building out a new function.
  • Strong technical background in APIs, SaaS architectures, and enterprise integrations; fintech/payments experience a strong plus.
  • Proven ability to work with enterprise customers — comfortable engaging with both technical and business stakeholders.
  • Track record of building and scaling customer-facing engineering functions in a growing company.
  • Excellent communication skills: able to simplify complex concepts and inspire confidence with executives and engineers alike.
  • Hands-on mindset: willing to jump into demos, solution design, and integration discussions when needed.
